To keep it simple, we believe that there’s a better way to deliver physical therapy treatment. We focus on utilizing a hands-on, personalized approach to provide high-quality care. At Bourgeois Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab our patients only see a physical therapist. We do this so each patient feels that they’re receiving care from the expert in their profession. We also do this to provide individualized treatment to help our patients achieve their functional, occupational, and sports-related goals. By providing individualized treatment, we can provide a higher level of care and we can give our patients the individualized attention they deserve.

We focus on utilizing manual therapy, treatment with the hands, to address our patients’ problems. We follow this up with an individualized therapeutic exercise program designed to enhance the benefits of manual therapy as well as to further address any limitations that may be present.  In addition to physical therapy, we offer a welcoming, comfortable environment, where the health and well-being of our patients are always considered. Meet Our Staff

Christian Bourgeois:  Owner, Physical Therapist

Christian Bourgeois grew up in Ascension Parish and graduated from St. Amant High School in 1996. After high school, he attended LSU and played baseball from 1997-2000. He was fortunate enough to be on the 1997 and 2000 National Championship teams. He finished his undergraduate degree in 2000 and then earned his Master’s degree in Education (MEd) in 2002. While working towards his Master’s degree, he married his high school sweetheart Melissa Burton on Sept. 29, 2001. 

Christian taught and coached in the Ascension Parish school system for 2 years before deciding to go back to school for PT. He enrolled in the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in St. Augustine, FL in 2005 and graduated with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) in August of 2007. After graduation from PT school, Christian and Melissa decided to stay in St. Augustine where their oldest son Noah was born on Aug. 5, 2009. While in St. Augustine, Christian practiced physical therapy and taught for the University of St. Augustine before deciding to move home in 2014 to be closer to family. He and Melissa opened Bourgeois Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab in 2015. Christian and Melissa’s youngest son Luke was born on April 14, 2020. 

Throughout his career, Christian has continued to distinguish himself as a therapist earning his ASTYM certification in 2008, his Manual Therapy Certification (MTC) in 2009, his Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT) in 2013, his Certified Manual Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT) certification in 2014, and his Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) in 2019.

Christian is passionate about physical therapy, and he and Melissa firmly believe in supporting the community. They also believe that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity. Each person that walks through the doors of Bourgeois Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab is more than just a number; they are part of the Bourgeois PT family.

Jason Schexnayder:  Physical Therapist

Jason grew up in Hahnville and Kenner, LA. He attended high school at Ridgewood Preparatory School where he was a 1st team all-state pitcher his senior year in 2005. After high school, he attended Southeastern Louisiana University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Fitness and Human Performance and a minor in Exercise Science in 2011. Upon graduating, he was named the most outstanding graduate in the Kinesiology major.

He began attending physical therapy school in 2013 at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in St. Augustine, FL where he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015. This is where he met and was taught by our owner, Christian Bourgeois. Jason also met his wife, Sam, at physical therapy school. After he graduated, they moved back to Louisiana. He took his first job in Gonzales, LA in early 2016 but left after several months to work with Christian, becoming Bourgeois Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab’s first employee.

Jason and his wife made the decision to begin travel physical therapy, taking contract work around the country from 2017 – 2019. During that time, they travelled to many places including Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Canada, Alaska, Italy, Greece, Florida, and North Carolina. As a result of these travels, Jason became an avid hiker and photographer and has many photographs depicting their travels together. After having their son, Graham, they settled back down in Prairieville, LA in 2019 where he returned to Bourgeois Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab. 

Jason enjoys educating his patients about their conditions, anatomy, and anything involving health and well-being. He’s a strong believer in combining education and exercise in order to get his patients better. He recently received his dry needling certification with Myopain Seminars earning the credentials CMTPT in 2020. Jason is a wildlife enthusiast, an avid traveler, loves photography, and is also a big sports fan (especially the New Orleans Saints). Jason and Sam recently had their second child, a girl named Scout. Jason says he’s happiest when Sam smiles and laughs at their children because it’s a “true laugh” and shows how much his wife loves them.

Kishan Shah:  Physical Therapist

“Kish” was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA. He went to Woodlawn high school graduating in 2010. He attended Louisiana State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the Kinesiology major in 2014. He worked as a physical therapy technician at Go Physical Therapy during his undergraduate years and then also began working as a technician for Sage Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. He continued doing this for 1 year after receiving his bachelor’s degree. He then attended the University of St. Augustine in Austin, TX and received his doctorate degree in physical therapy in 2018. He began working for Bourgeois Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab after receiving his degree in physical therapy. 

Since working as a physical therapist Kish has received a certification in Concussion Management from Complete Concussion Management Incorporation and also received his dry needling certification from Myopain Seminars earning the credentials CMTPT in 2020.

Kish is an avid sports enthusiast (especially of the LSU Fighting Tigers!), and currently plays volleyball, basketball, and soccer. He enjoys working with all populations, and loves being a mentor to young patients. Kish is fueled by his passion to treat every individual and helping them get back to their normal activities and enjoys educating them about their condition. He also loves to learn more each day from colleagues in order to become a better physical therapist. Kish likes to say, “teamwork makes the dream work” and “let’s make it happen.” He loves to travel and enjoys taking on adventures.

Rennie Walker:  Physical Therapist

Rennie Walker grew up in Lake Charles and graduated from St. Louis Catholic High School in 2007.  During his high school soccer career, he was part of a team that went on to win three state championships and one NSCAA National Championship. Throughout that time, he went on to garner All-District, All-State, NSCAA All-American, and NSCAA/adidas Louisiana State Player of the Year honors.  After high school he went on to play Division I soccer at Centenary College of Louisiana from 2007-2011.  Rennie graduated from Centenary with his Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science.  He went on to earn a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in Austin, Texas. Rennie recently became certified in dry needling through the Dry Needling Institute in association with the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. Rennie’s love of the great outdoors inspires his athleticism alongside his wife, Mellynn, and their chocolate lab Brie.  In his spare time, you can find Rennie on the water, fishing for red snapper off-shore or in-shore chasing trophy trout, staying active, and enjoying the outdoors.

Maria Nides:  Physical Therapist

Maria was born and raised in New Orleans and graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in 2013. She attended The University of New Orleans and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology in 2017. Maria went to The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in St. Augustine, Florida, where she graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in April 2021. She completed her final clinical rotation at Bourgeois Physical Therapy and began working for them shortly after passing her board exam. Since she started working, Maria has become Dry Needling certified through the Dry Needling Institute in association with the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy and she hopes to continue to grow in her learning. She enjoys treating patients of all ages and educating patients on their condition. When Maria isn’t working, she enjoys exercising, trying new restaurants and breweries, and traveling (especially to Greece!). She is also a huge Saints fan and never misses watching the football games!

Kim Henderson: Secretary

Kim is our friendly face at the front desk. She does a great job making our patients feel welcome and she is certainly our most festive employee. She grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and attended Istrouma High School graduating in 1973. Kim was a partner for a business called Physical Inspections Inc. for 17 years in 3 different states. She then pursued a career in the Casino industry in 1994. She started as a pit clerk but moved her way up to where she became a part of the executive board about 6 years after beginning this career. She finally worked for Hollywood Casino as a shift manager until 2018 and then left that position and began working for Bourgeois Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab.

She’s been married to Donald Ray for 14 years, but they have been together for 30 years. As a joke, Kim likes to say she didn’t want to rush the relationship. Kim has 2 children of her own from previous marriages and one stepchild with Donald Ray. She has 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Kim likes a good time, a good drink, country music, and a friendly conversation.
