Jason Schexnayder: Physical Therapist
Jason grew up in Hahnville and Kenner, LA and attended high school at Ridgewood Preparatory School. Jason was the starting pitcher in the 1A baseball state championship his junior year and earned the honor of 1st team all-state as a pitcher his senior year in 2005. After high school, he attended Southeastern Louisiana University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Fitness and Human Performance with a minor in Exercise Science in 2011. Upon graduating, he was named the most outstanding graduate in the Kinesiology major with a focus on fitness and human performance.
He worked as a physical therapy technician from 2011 – 2013 at River Region Rehab in Luling, LA before attending the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in St. Augustine, FL where he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015. He was taught by our owner, Christian Bourgeois, in Mock Clinic in PT school. Jason also met his wife, Sam, at physical therapy school and after graduating, they moved back to Louisiana buying a home in Prairieville, LA. He took his first job as a therapist at Baton Rouge Physical Therapy-Lake in Gonzales, LA in early 2016 but left after several months in order to work with Christian, becoming Bourgeois Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab’s first employee.
Jason and his wife made the decision to begin travel physical therapy, taking contract work around the country and did this from 2017 – 2019. They accepted contracts around the country travelling to many places including Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Canada, Alaska, Italy, Greece, Florida, and North Carolina. During this time, Jason became an avid hiker and photographer and has many photographs depicting their travels together. After having their son, Graham, they settled back down in Prairieville, LA in 2019. He then returned to Bourgeois Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab.
Jason enjoys educating his patients about their conditions, anatomy, and anything involving health and well-being. He’s a strong believer in combining education and exercise in order to get his patients better. He recently received his dry needling certification with Myopain Seminars earning the credentials CMTPT in 2020. Jason is a wildlife enthusiast, an avid traveler, loves photography, and is also a big sports fan (especially the New Orleans Saints as he’s been a season ticket holder almost his entire life). Jason says he’s happiest when his wife, Sam, smiles and laughs at their son, Graham, because it’s a “true laugh” and shows how much his wife loves their son.
